Digital Illustration with Procreate — iPad to Portfolio
Make real illustrations on your iPad — from line work to color and texture. We finish four portfolio-ready pieces together. No traditional drawing background required, just an iPad and an Apple Pencil.
About this course
Procreate has done for digital illustration what Figma did for UI — collapsed the barrier so anyone with an iPad can produce work that competes with what was studio-only ten years ago. We don't waste time on theory you don't need; we draw together. Across the course you'll build a small but real portfolio: a character study, an editorial illustration, an Arabic-themed piece, and a personal poster. We cover brushes, layers, color theory just-enough, and the social media formats your work needs to land on Instagram and Behance.
What you'll cover
- 1
Procreate setup, brushes, and your first 60 minutes
Canvas size. Brush library. Gestures. Draw a coffee cup before the hour ends.
- 2
Line confidence — sketching what you see
Gesture drawing. Construction. The 3 lines that imply 30. Drawing from photo reference.
- 3
Layers, masks, and the digital advantage
Why digital is forgiving. Clipping masks. The layer order that saves rework.
- 4
Color — palettes, mood, harmony
How to pick 5 colors that work. Coolors and Procreate's harmony tool. Limited palettes.
- 5
Portfolio piece 1 — character study
Sketch, line, flat color, shadow, highlight. A complete portrait, start to finish.
- 6
Portfolio pieces 2-4
Editorial, Arabic-themed, personal poster. Each in a different style to show range.
- 7
Exporting and sharing your work
Instagram dimensions. Behance project page. Print-ready PDFs. Watermarking without disfiguring.
